Scholarship Banquet

U.S. Congresswoman Karen Bass of California’s 37th Congressional District was the keynote speaker. She is also chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and was introduced by U.S. Congresswoman Alma Adams of N.C.’s 12th Congressional District. Governor Roy Cooper was a special guest. Cash Michaels, columnist and film director, served as master of ceremonies.

ISSUES BRIEFING

The event included two issue briefings. The first session, “Enhancing and Maintaining HBCU’s Enrollment in an Era of Greater Competition for Students” included panelists: Chancellor Johnson Akinleye (NCCU), Dr. Johnny M. Smith (Pitt Community College), Christina Boyd (NCCU Graduate) and Allan Oduor (NC A&T Graduate).

The second session, “Public Policy Landscape: Impact on HBCUs” included panel discussions from Professor Theodore M. Shaw (UNC-CH School of Law) and Senator Gladys Robinson.
